Ontario Unemployment ਨੇ 2012 ਤੋਂ Highest Level ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ
FAO ਦੀ report, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਹਫ਼ਤੇ publish ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, unemployment ਅਤੇ job losses ਦਾ ਇੱਕ dire scenario ਦਿਖਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਖ਼ਾਸਕਰ Ontario ਦੇ industrial sector ‘ਚ ਭਾਰੀ ਅਸਰ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। Province ਦੀ unemployment rate ninth consecutive quarter ਵਧ ਕੇ 7.8% ‘ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਈ ਹੈ — ਜੋ 2012 ਤੋਂ highest ਹੈ (pandemic spikes ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ)।
Manufacturing Sector ‘ਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਝਟਕਾ
US tariffs ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਅਸਰ manufacturing industry ‘ਤੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ sector ਨੇ ਇਕੱਲੇ Q2 ‘ਚ 29,400 jobs ਗਵਾਈਆਂ। ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ business, building ਅਤੇ support services ਨੇ ਵੀ 14,900 jobs ਗਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ। Transportation, warehousing ਅਤੇ agriculture ਵਰਗੇ industries ਵੀ decline ‘ਚ ਰਹੇ। Overall, Ontario ਦੀ industrial employment quarter ਦੌਰਾਨ 3.5% ਘਟੀ — ਜਿਸਦਾ direct ਕਾਰਨ FAO ਨੇ United States ਦੇ retaliatory tariffs ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ।
ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ ਕੁਝ losses ਨੂੰ finance, insurance, real estate, scientific ਅਤੇ technical services sectors ਨੇ compensate ਕੀਤਾ, ਪਰ overall situation grim ਹੈ।
Opposition ਵੱਲੋਂ Ontario Government ‘ਤੇ Criticism
NDP MPP ਅਤੇ finance critic Jessica Bell ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ: “These numbers are truly alarming. Ontario workers are facing the worst job losses in more than a decade, with the manufacturing sector hit especially hard. Families can’t afford more government inaction while good, full-time jobs disappear from right underneath of us.”
Ontario Liberal finance critic Stephanie Bowman ਨੇ ਵੀ Doug Ford ਦੀ government ‘ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ election promise — “protect Ontario” from Trump’s economic policies — fulfill ਕਰਨ ‘ਚ ਫੇਲ੍ਹ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
